planning on going to one soon? did one just recently pass?
what have you gotten at cons? (nice merchadise, cheap products?) dicuss it here

Fan Expo just finished today... i didn't even go all three days but it was pretty fun... normally i buy DVD's but i couldn't this time since i have ordered all the series i want... i did however buy 4 figures and a piece of art from artist alley... and some monty python's holy grail bunny slippers... pretty funny (and very comfortable) the last thing i got was Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney... which is very fun... and i'll hopefulyl beat soon so i can get the next one... and then beat that one and get the one after that (is the third one even out yet?)

i got to 2-4 cons a year... it's pretty fun and it's nice to go visit the artist ^^

I have never been to a Con but I want to so bad and some one the other day was telling me that Texas has a bunch so she gave me a website ( http://www.animecons.com/events/ ) that shows when and where some of them are so hopefuly I will go to one soon. I was suposed to go to Anime fest on teh 31st of this month but my weekends at work changed now I am kinda bummed out because I was going to go to a Sumi-e Workshop and was looking forward to learing how to do Sumi-e Japanese monochromatic ink painting. it sounded fun to learn. but now I have to miss it. Oh and I was going to get to commisson an anime art peice and get to see them draw it in person But like I said I can't go. Oh well good news is I didn't pay in advance so I still have my money.
But there was another one coming up called Fanime Cruse that I was planning on but it was postponed till Summer 2008
and moved to Los Angeles CA. But there is another con I on Oct 5-7 hopefully I will get to go to it.

Anime North pwns FanExpo. Although FanExpo was pretty fun, AN was just...better.

Anime North had concerts (albeit, shoddily arranged ones), better weather, wrestling (and wrestlers), and more game stores.
FanExpo had shit coffee and Adam West being a bastard.

Maybe I'll cosplay there next year, THEN I'd get some funky looks!

I really gotta agree that AN was better than FANexpo, even though I bought stuff i wanted at FAN, AN just had more to see and it felt like it was bigger then FAN

this is AN was so much better... then again AN has been getting progressively better each year... and FAN... ever since they moved it downstairs it hasn't been as good... at least in the north upstairs area you could tell the time of day it was... also at AN it's way more focused... and it's sad that it had more gaming then the gaming section of FAN... at least we found that place that sells games at the end... even though it was pretty much in the horror section... yay being organized.

I like FAN far better than AN . . . there's more variety at FAN. I mean, I like anime, but do I really need 38 vendors trying to sell me what is basically the same merchandise? Nope. As a horror buff, I love that FAN has the horror-themed stuff, but I really liked walking through the sci-fi and comic sections as well. There's just more to see, and the people were far nicer.

Yeah, they were pretty unorganized. It was like "Get in this line, then go downstairs, then get in that line, fill this out, go over there, get in this other line--no, not THAT line!--then turn around three times naked under the full moon with a bucket on your head." Even inside, it was hard to make a mental map of the place. You had to sort of hop from landmark to landmark and hope you bashed into whatever you were looking for. Like, I was psyched about meeting Roberto Campanella, who did the choreography and played Pyramid Head in the Silent Hill movie, but it took Elegia and I about fifty passes of the autograph stations and surrounding area before we found him!

I've never been one to go questing for autographs, so I didn't even know it was commonplace to charge for autographs. Campanella was a sweetheart and only charged $10, but I heard numbers like $50 or $60--for a friggin signature! Do these people not make enough money as it is? It can only imagine what kind of insanity Charisma Carpenter or George Romero were asking. It's like taxing your fans to meet you!

That game place . . . confused me . . . For a while I thought it was the gaming section unto itself.

Actors should never charge for signatures... it's not terribly commonplace... only at conventions... which makes me feel like there taking advantage of the fans

Getting most autographs is easy... write a letter asking for one to there agent or work in film (i have connections to the latter)

Just a tad. I was like "hubbawhazzawho?" when I found out I had to pay for an autograph. Very embarassing! I really didn't think people charged money--especially ludicrous amounts of money--to sign a picture for their fans. I mean . . . if I were a celebrity and I had people lining up to meet me, I'd say "You know what? Thank you for taking the time to stand in line. I'm flattered that you'd do that to meet me. Here, have a picture and let me sign it for you, to say thanks." But apparently I'm pretty weird. Confused

Yeah I don't doubt getting autographs is easy . . . I just don't really see the point of asking for one if I haven't met the person. And there's really not that many people I'd want to meet anyway. I mean, I like George Romero movies, but I've never had a burning desire to meet the guy.

yeah... one year Spock was there... (the actors name escapes me) and he was carging either 100 or 300... which is just stupid... thats why i like voice actors... autographs are free... and thats the way it should be... unless the money goes to charity i will never pay for an autograph... and even then i probably wont...

Jesus, $300?! I'd shove his pen right in his pointy Spock ear if he told me I needed to pay him $300 to sign a picture of himself.
