Chapter 1
Corem ran as fast as his small legs could carry him crashing through vines and brigher thorns, weaving in and out of trees. He ignored the pain of all the small cuts cause by The thorns his only thoughts were of escaping and getting to his parents in time. His lungs felt aflame, his legs ached, and blood seeped though his golden brown hair. The boy still had the long sword he was trying to deliver strapped to his back but he didn’t dare to take even one moment to remove the cumbersome thing sense he would be caught in an instant.
Soldiers trailed not far behind, trying to keep a reasonable distance between themselves and the half-breed. If they got too close the boy might get smart and try and lead them in a false direction.
“I need you to lead me to the stone you little mix breed. I will stay at bay for now but soon I will relish in the thrill of hacking you limb from limb.” The leader of the group said out loud to himself.
Sleia paced back and fourth in the in between the house and the workshop while rubbing on the small stone on her necklace. The elfin woman seemed to be very worried. One might say panicked. She approached the workshop doors once more.
“Don’t worry he should be reaching there shop about now I am telling you your worries are for nothing.” Galen said to his wife with a confident grin. She looked upon her husband with his muscular frame and long beard. He truly was a strong man but a human could never have the instincts of an elf and she knew something was wrong. She told him several times but his stubborn optimism, which she love him for, wouldn’t let him believe her warnings. So she smiled a worried smile and went back to pacing.
Corem knew he was almost home by now his breath was so ragged he could barley breath, his pace had slowed , and he began to get dizzy but he ran on. He broke out of the tree line about four hundred pace from his home. He was able to see his mother pacing and his father hammering on sword. He tried to scream out but his body couldn’t muster enough extra energy to do so.
All of the sudden horses broken through the trees at a dead sprint. Sleia heard the horse and turned and saw her son running as fast as he could towards the house . She screamed for her husband he came out of the work shop just in time to see the horror unfold before his eyes .
Corem turned just as a archers arrow pierced his back and went through his right lung. He felt a sharp pain go though his body as he fell towards the ground . His squirmed on the ground as his lung fought to bring air in for the rest of his body . Suddenly the horses came over the top of the dying young boy their hooves land all across his body adding to his immense pain.
His mother let out and ear piercing scream as his father ran from the doors of the workshop with a still red hot sword and his blacksmiths hammer in his hands. As pure rage now drove the mans actions. Sleia ran fast towards as she could for her wounded son. Two arrow where unleash by and archer, without stopping she held up her right hand and muttered a few words the arrows came mere inches from her before they where shattered into million of pieces by some type of invisible force.
A solider let out a blood curdling yell as Galen sliced him from his horse with a still hot blade. Despite the swords unpolished surface the big man had little problem slicing through the man.
“Him first.” Bark their leader pointing towards the enraged blacksmith. The archers quickly turned the attention towards the man. Sending a volley of arrows at his chest . The arrows penetrated deep into his body. One narrowly missing his heart. Much to the surprise of the archers this only enraged the man more. Finally a swords man dismounted and engaged the black smith in a fierce fight. The swords man easily deflected the powerful blows the Galen delivered. After a bit the swords man was able to start landing blows causing massive injures to the large man.
Corem watched from the ground as his father attempted to fight off the men to no avail . He began to lose consciousness as his energy waned ,his eyelids closed he felt his heart began to slow he knew he was dyeing. Suddenly he felt a deep burning in his chest the sudden pain cause his eyes to popped back open. He looked down at his chest he saw a woman hand pressing a necklace down hard against his chest. His eye followed the arm up and he saw it was his mother kneeling above him saying words. He couldn’t make out the words they seemed not to make any sense. He tried to speak but his mothers left hand went over his lips silencing him she shook her head to tell him not to try but she never stop saying the strange words that he couldn’t understand. His eyes fell away from his mother and back towards his father. To the horror of the boy it appeared that his father was losing his battle. Corem could see the swords man slashing away at his father and his father staggering backwards now far to wounded to fight off his assailant. Tears began to stream down the young boys face as his world began crashing down with every blow that was struck against his father.
Sweat was beading on Sleia’s brow as she put as much magic as she could into the stone of her necklace trying to heal the mortal wounds of the boy before he was to far gone to save. She knew her husband wouldn’t be able to hold out much longer and she dare not move the boy till his lungs where completely functional. “That will have to do.” she said as she picked up the boy his body still battered and broken and made her way to a small stream just beyond their house.
She made her way to the water but the boy in a small boat and pulled it into the water and jumped in. She then heard bow stings resonating. She threw her self down on top of her son on the floor of the boat.
Corem squeezed his eyes shut he could hear the arrows hitting the side of the boat. He felt a warm liquid start to run down his face and chest and collecting under his body on the boats floor. He opened his eye’s. He saw the arrows sticking through his mother and her blood running down on him. He began to cry uncontrollably as the current of the small stream took the boat away from his once peaceful and happy home.
