Steven Erikson-Malazan Book of the Fallen....This series is among the greastest things i have ever read.
also Terry Pratchett (disc world books) and Neil Gaiman are excellent authors with senses of humor that can't be beat. and finally a shout out to the novels written by the late David Gemmell, may he rest in peace.

From someone with a full mind at the moment (HAHA, okay, maybe I should stop joking around. Me? A full mind?), yes, the name is Michael A. Stackpole
And, read Talion: Revenant. It will be the best Fantasy book you ever read.

I'm reading Northern Lights by Phillip Pullman, and I'm really enjoying it. I admit it was kinda hard to get into, but it's got some really cool ideas and it's a really good read.

Sunshine By Robin McKinley is a good vampire book that freshens up the vampire wing of books.
Deerskin by the same author is a good one as well, no vamps though.

Around the time the Lord of the Rings movies came out, I got really heavy into fantasy books. I got bored with them fast, but during that three-year period I really enjoyed The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. I only got up to book 9, Winter's Heart, before my interest in the genre waned, but it was enjoyable. Not masterfully written or anything, but fun with lovable characters, interesting ideas, and enough Tolkien ripoffs to keep the reader happy. I think there's eleven or twelve volumes in the series now.
Another series I was into was Runelords by David Farland. The first book was pretty much one gigantic battle, which was pretty cool from what I remember. I only finished the first two books before my interest in the genre faded, but I think he's at five or six volumes now.

that is a serious problem. if a book series is too long it can loose the interest of the reader. And Wheel of Time is about as long as a series gets.
Although I do know a still unfinished book series that has had me hooked for seven books. and i eagerly await the next three. I know I have been practically preaching about this series but it really is that awesome
Steven Erikson-Malazan Book of the Fallen. Go read it!

Yeah, I'm a fan of three to five books in a series. things set in the same world? Have a ball! I love books set in the same world, it adds familiarity. But in a SERIES, sometimes there's way too many... I don't want to start a series that will cost me a few hundred dollars to get all of the books!

hmm in that case you would probably prefere many books in the same world, but able to stand alone, with occasional recurring characters. If so I would suggest the Discworld Novels by terry Pratchett. I think you'd get a kick out of it. well I think anyone would get a kick out of it. I mean they have such hillarious characters: A wizard who can't even spell wizard, An alcoholic Policeman who rises to a position of aristocratic power (whether he likes it or not), An old witch who believes 'being Good and Right doesn't make you Nice, and she isn't', A 90 something year-old hero who was a legend in his own lifetime but is now a lifetime in his own legend, And of course my favorite recuring character of them all, who always speaks LIKE THIS IN BOLD CAPITAL LETTERS, Death.
So I would advise anyone to pick up a few of these at your local library or book store (they are small books so they shouldn't cost too much) and give them a read. They are a laugh riot, you would regret

Lol I adore characters that are amusing. What I want to buy is "The dark Magician's Club" because it's gotten rave reviews from some people on DA, one of which I look up to and find to be a brilliant story writer himself. The characters are also so awesome. I just need the money >< lol
It's supposed to be 7 books long when it's done, but I'd make an exception for that one.
I've heard a lot of good things about the diskworld novels. I think they are on a list of books to keep an eye out for.
I can just see where my money is going when I get a job... I mean, 20% is going to charity and 50% is going into savings, but that 30% will likely be saved up for about a year (after buying a comish from rai, some of her bookmarks and replacing mom's chili pot and anything else I trash that I'm not supposed to XD ) and then splurged on books to the point I'll actually be able to read for a month without slowing down because I'm nearing the end of a book and don't have another to read ofter it...
But damn would that rock. *huggles her books, even if she's read almost all of them*

Haha. Very true, friend . . . There's no doubt he's milking the series now, but I really did enjoy it from book one to about eight. My problem was I was never really a genre fan, I just fell into it for a couple of years. There are a lot of people who eat, sleep and breathe those books, so I guess they're not all bad.
If you're a fantasy fan, I'd say go for it.
