Merger? |
|
i just heard about this lately and don't know many details but ADV apparently bought out Geneon...
i was shocked to hear this... i mean... pretty much every title i own is done by Geneon or ADV, i think i have 3 series by Funimation...
i mean... those two were the biggest Anime importers and now... it's all going to be different...
ADV now controls Geneon's marketing, releasing, and many other things
geneon only handles the licensing, authoring and encoding
so now there pretty much nothing... worthless almost...
think this will affect the industry at all?

I doubt there will be any big changes in the industry. there may be a lager amout of titles realsed if they merged. but I don't think it will affect thing drasticly but thats just my opion.

My main worry is ADV is known for putting out thin packs when a series is completed... Thin packs take out all the extras and just leave the show... most people don't mind this but i love dvd extras...
Geneon tends to just take the disk and put it in a digipack or boxset... keeping everything the same... i like this...
Adv controls Geneon... possibility of more thin packs... makes me sad...

Ah, but what about the possibility that with them merged, you will get both thin pack and DVD with extras.
May be a far out chance, but hey, I can be optimistic.

Geneon will still be controlling the distribution of their titles. There will be no massive wave of thinpacking (thankfully).

Geneon is going completely out of business so you better get the titles you want from them before they go completely out of print.

*nods* i'm more angry that they wont print the last volume of a series i'm getting from them... if i'm lucky (i'm never lucky) i'll get it right away... or i have to wait for it to be relicensed and go through all that crap >< i'm so angry about this...
luckily it's only the one series i'm missing out on... everything else i have ordered and waiting in my box at my Anime store...
it's still annoying... especially since they were my second favorite dubbing company
