The man grunted before walking over to the tree.
Seconds later it came falling to the ground with a single stroke. "Keep your money. If you have any." He said, sounding a rather lot like a grumpy bear.
Their following eventually lead them the a patch of ground that was clear of trees as far as they could see. Only an old creek that had once been a river tore up the endless sea of grass. "Unless you want to sleep on a bridge, we'll have to hurry. It's not safe to rest in fallen fields." Woods commented.
Clearly, this man knew a lot more than his own story.

"If it's not too much trobule please pace yourself sir." Said Virgilus calmly "Not all of our group are as swift footed as you."

"I'm not trying to make a situation worse, but if those who can not keep up are those who come first, then you will all end up in a great deal of trouble. The dangers of these fields at night are not things you wish to face." That said he contenued on.
It was an hour till sunset and a bridge slowly came into sight, as well as the beginning of another forest.
Rowena was cranky. The girl trying to keep up her speed (mainly to spite this man who had said nothing directly to her ) despite the fact that she was still not accostomed to the legs. She was going to fall behind and she knew it, just not when, and this made her very, very snippy.

As the group got closer to the bridge they could see two men standing just in front of the bridge, arguing. One man, a traveling musician by his garb, was saying "I'm telling you, there's a troll guarding the bridge!" "Impossible" Said the other man, "there's no such thing as trolls!" "Then how do you explain the dead unicorns?" "Are you blind or just stupid? Those are clearly goats you daft bastard!"
The man stormed towards the bridge. He took two steps on the bridge when a monstrous roar from underneath sent him fleeing in terror. He did not even pause as he past the arriving group.
The Bard watched the other man run off. "I told you so." He shouted after him.
"Well that's something you don't see every day." Said Virgilus.
(You have no idea how happy this post makes me.)

( Lol. I giggled. )
Woods frowned and contenued forward, his axe shifted in his hands. His expression was no nonsense as he appreached the bridge, luckily for some of them he'd slowed a little.

Pepper and Mustard were quickly beside Woods their hackles rising and teeth bared. The roar came again and this time the troll came out from underneath the bridge, in all it's fearsome glory. It was eight feet tall and dark red with long horns, claws, and teeth. It roared again and extended a taloned hand.
It was at this point that the Bard noticed something beside the bridge. Turning to Woods he said "Prithee sir, Before you do something rash might I have a moment of your time?"

Woods nodded slowly, being the sort for common speak it took him a moment to figure out what 'prithee' meant. "Yes, but be quick. We have little time."
Rowena stared at the troll with wide eyes. If she had boots, she'd be shaking in them.

the Bard said, "thank you I'll be brief there's something you should take a look at. I think the troll was pointing at it."
The Bard knelt down and pull up the object that had caught his attention. It was a wooden sign that read, "Bridge closed for repairs, please use the temporary replacement Bridge to the left."
"I think the troll is just there to keep people of the bridge during the repairs." The bard said with a shrug.
Virgilus just stared from the sign to the troll back to the sign and back to the troll. "Well I'll be damned. A public service troll."
(I really like writing for monsters like trolls. You sometimes forget monsters are people too.)

There was a long pause. The man then looked to where the replacement bridge was and groaned. "More time to be wasted."
Rowena was still frozen.
( Xd He he. I liked that. )

There was a sound beneath the bridge and a short squat humanoid with orange skin and a long nose, wearing a hardhat and smoking a cigar came out, shouting. "RAKA! what did I tell you about roaring? You're making the bridge rattle, and that makes it hard to work." Noticing the group standing there the goblin looked at the sky, noted the time, and said, "Oh dear, you guys are in a hurry, it's almost night. Right, follow me, I'll give you the formal apology for you inconvience once we're in the clear." The Goblin moved to the temporary wooden bridge and gestured for them to start crossing.

Another paused followed and Woods started to follow, however with Rowena's not moving the man went over, plucked her up off the ground and carried her.
That solved that.
(All this time I have funny music in my head.)

Once the group was across the goblin took the lead again. "A safe forest is not far from here. come on."
The Troll had followed them across and was lopeing along beside them. Virgilus studied the troll as they moved. He'd seen tracks like the ones it was making back at the Witch's house.
(I was kind of thinking of having the troll do something similar to Rowena.)

Chesh had disappeared after they had set off, fading into nothingness as the group followed Hansel and Grettel. He had watched from afar, laughing with a mad sort of glee as the group encountered the troll.
Before long, he revealed himself once more, appearing in his human form sitting on the troll's shoulder, laughing softly to himself.
(You know, I can't help but think this little scene would make an interesting drawing, with the whole little band following the goblin. Shame I can't draw)

( Lol, I'd draw it but I don't have the skill to get it to come out looking presentable. LOL, I could do stick figure versions.)
Woods contenued to follow the goblin without speaking.
Meanwhile rowena was flailing about on his shoulder, telling him to put her down. He was good at ignoring people, it seemed. She looked to Virgilus for some form of help.

The troll turned his head to look at the curious man who had appeared on his shoulder. It said, "How.. you.. get der?" The troll spoke slowly with a heavy accent, it was clear human speech was not his native language.
Virgilus shrugged, not sure what he could do in this situation.
The sun was quickly setting when they reached the edge of the forest. The goblin called back, "let's get a move on! It's too dangerous to stay out here much longer!"
